Songkran (from the Sanskrit word Sankranti, signifying the sun’s shift from one zodiac to another) heralds the beginning of the solar year and is the most important festival for the people of Thailand. Steven Ross Van Duyn was born in New Zealand and went to culinary school in Wellington, New Zealand. After working in top establishments in his home town, he set sails for Thailand as Executive Chef at the Beachcomber Resort Samui, the Dusit Princess Hotel Bangkok, Blue Lagoon Samui, Desert Palm Resort Dubai and finally at Sareeraya Villas & Suites on Samui’s Chaweng Beach, where he since serves the best from his superb repertoire of culinary delights.
The 3rd Samui Fine Dining Festival began on March 1 and ends on April 30. The two-month dining extravaganza is presented by a superb selection of Samui’s finest restaurants, together with a group of international chefs based on the island. Each evening, a selection of 16 restaurants present diners with the very best they have to offer.
