Happy Thai New Year!

Stay indoors on Monday 13th of April, if you happen to be in Thailand, or step out if you love water and getting wet! The Songkran festival, also known as Thailand Water Festival is celebrated throughout the country next week.

Songkran heralds the beginning of the solar year and is the most important festival for the people of Thailand. Here in the South of Thailand we celebrate Songkran for 1 day, however, Bangkok usually observes 3 days and Northern regions can celebrate up to 10 days.

Water plays an important role in the festivities, and the pouring of water is symbolic of the cleansing of the spirit, mind and body. The older tradition of Songkran was the bathing of Buddha images and young people poured scented water onto the hands of elders and parents as a mark of respect whilst seeking their blessing for the coming year. Nowadays, it is mostly an event of having a good time and getting wet.

Our team at Chef’s Table prepares for Sonkgran celebrations by organizing a sumptuous Thai & Seafood BBQ Buffet on the beach on Monday, 13th April. Please do not forget to join us, great food, relaxed atmosphere and live music await you. Advance bookings are recommended.

Sareeraya Villas & Suites wish you a joyous Thai New Year!
